I think Haiti is still it need for prayer. I fell we must pray for the families comfort in this time of death and destruction. I will update you ASAP whenever I get update email with "OMS International". I have received one so far and, it is wonderful news it reads;
On January 13, Wednesday afternoon, shortly before 5 p.m., a 7.0 magnitude
earthquake struck the capital city of Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Its
epicenter was 10 miles southwest of the city in the mountains. News
reports tell of the collapse of a hospital, the Hotel Montana and the
National Palace, as well as damage to the U.N. peacekeeper compound and
the Ministry of Finance.
The main OMS ministry center in Haiti is located in Cap Haitien, located
80 miles north of Port-au-Prince. We have received news from our team in
Cap Haitien that, although shaken, our team is unharmed. Today we expect
to receive news concerning the state of our buildings.
OMS has two ministry centers in Port-au-Prince: a church belonging to the
OMS-related Fellowship of Emmaus Churches and a guest house known as “The
Villa.” The status of both is unknown at this time.
Latest news this morning:
- Brett Bundy is on his way to Port-au-Prince this morning, with Luke
Renner
(video guy) and driver Olin - they're going to check up on the OMS Villa
(located at epicentre of quake) and to see how OMS can best respond to
this disaster
- they've had no news from the Villa yet, communications impossible.
Several local staff members thought to be there. Don't know about any
visiting groups staying there, but no missionaries there at the moment.
- some reports from Cap Haitien this morning - the main bridge going from
town to the airport is cracked, not passable.
- separate from the earthquake, there's been a lot of rain in Cap, some
flooding at Petite Anse, (where the Radio 4VEH transmitters are) and
people are displaced from their homes.
Asking for your prayers, of course, for the people of Haiti; for our
staff, families and friends; pray for fellow Christian broadcasters at
Radio Lumière in Port, no news about them; pray for safety, wisdom for
Brett and leadership as decisions are made; pray that Radio 4VEH will be a
comfort to listeners who are in desperation today.
Thanks,
...Kate
